On of the most common questions we get in the Support area concerns the "Not enough file" warning when a new computer is put onto the network. To facilitate this process, we have created this FAQ to explain where to look on the local computer.
For Windows 95/98:
Click on the Start button, them click on Run. Where it say Open, type in sysedit and hit Enter. That will open up a Windows with multiple windows inside. Find the Config.Sys windows and click on it.
Look in the file to see if there is a "Files= "
line.
a. If there is a "Files" line, make sure the number
is 125
b. If there is NOT a "Files" line, hit Enter to to
create a blank line. On the line, type in the following (without the quotation
marks): "Files=125" then hit Enter. In the next
line, type in "Buffers=40" Then, close the window and
save your changes.
Finally, reboot your computer.
For Windows NT:
Click on Start, Run and type in CMD where it says Open and hit Enter.
At the command prompt type in the following" Edit c:\winnt\system32\config.nt and hit Enter. This should open up your configuration file.
Next, look for the "File= " line. Windows NT should have created one by default. If there's more than one, delete the second occurance.
Change the number to 125. Also, hit Enter to create a blank line and type in "Buffers=40"
Hold down the ALT key and hit the F key for File. Then, arrow down and click on the X key to Exit. It will ask you to save your changes. Say Yes.
When you're back at the DOS prompt, type Exit and hit Enter. Then, reboot your computer
For Windows ME (or Millennium):
Click on Start, Run and type in CMD where it says Open and hit Enter
At the command prompt type in the following" Edit c:\windows\system.ini and hit Enter. This should open up your configuration file.
Hold down your ALT key and hit the S key for search. Then, hit Enter on the Find selection. Where it says "Find What" type in (without quotes) "[386Enh]" and hit Enter. Go to the end of that line and hit Enter to create a blank line below it.
On the new blank line type in the following (again, without quotes) "PerVMFiles=125"
Hold down the ALT key and hit the F key for File. Then, arrow down and click on the X key to Exit. It will ask you to save your changes. Say Yes.
When you're back at the DOS prompt, type Exit and hit Enter. Then, reboot your computer
For Windows 2000:
Click on Start, Run and type in CMD where it says Open and hit Enter
At the command prompt type in the following " Edit c:\winnt\system32\config.nt" and hit Enter. This should open up your configuration file.
Next, look for the "File= " line. Windows 2000 should have created one by default. If there's more than one, delete the second occurrence.
Change the number to 125. Also, hit Enter to create a blank line and type in "Buffers=40"
Hold down the ALT key and hit the F key for File. Then, arrow down and click on the X key to Exit. It will ask you to save your changes. Say Yes.
When you're back at the DOS prompt, type Exit and hit Enter. with Windows 2000, you do not have to reboot your computer. At this point, you should be able to get into TeamDME!.
For Windows XP Professional/Home:
Click on Start, Run and type in CMD where it says Open and hit Enter
At the command prompt type in the following "Edit c:\winnt\system32\config.nt" and hit Enter. This should open up your configuration file.
Next, look for the "File= " line. If it already exists, make sure it says "Files=125" If the line does not exist, simply hit Enter to create a new line and add the line.
Next, hold down the ALT key and hit the F key for File. Then, arrow down and click on the X key to Exit. It will ask you to save your changes. Say Yes.
When you're back at the DOS prompt, type Exit and hit Enter. Then, reboot your computer
